Community Connections

Throughout the history of the Ranch, the Mahon Family have been active members of the larger community. That tradition continues today with active participation in community events that focus on the protection and preservation of rural lifestyles and agriculture.

The Ranch currently works with local school and youth groups such as FFA and 4H to provide hands-on learning opportunities and give local children the opportunity to experience a traditional cattle ranch.

Each fall since 2019 as a way to showcase the re-introduction of hops along the Cosumnes River bottomlands, the Ranch has produced the Annual Mahon Ranch Hops and Brew Fest. Organized as a fundraiser for the Linda Mae Mahon Lema Foundation, the Fest features locally crafted beers brewed with hops currently produced on the Ranch. A highlight of the event are the hayride tours of the hop fields and riparian terrain of the Ranch.

Beginning in 2021 The Ranch has hosted and co-produced with the Elk Grove Historical Society and the Linda Mae Mahon Lema Foundation the Annual Elk Grove Civil War Days. This three-day event presents to area students and other attendees, authentic encampments and reenactors, in period clothes and uniforms, to depict the living conditions, equipment and battle scenarios of the era. The event is climaxed each day by a thundering re-enactment of a cannon battle.
